what online megazines are?

Today we were set a new assignment.

Format:Online Magazine.

Aim:Promoting Greater Manchester as a great place to live,study and work.

Target Audience: Art & Design Students

Create 2 articles each a being a double page spread (DPS) for the online magazine.

Create 1 advert to appear in the online magazine.

Optimise this opportunity.

Action Plan for today:

Come up with 3 ideas for articles you would like to create foe the one line magazine.

Come up with 2 ideas for advers that you would like to create for the online magazine.

Write blog posts on your 5 ideas.

I am not quite sure what the difference between online magazines and normal websites,so I did some research on line to find out what online magazines look like.

Here I found some nice examples.Firstly these online magazines are very easy to read with clear contents,bookmarks,page turners.They just like normal magazines but with more information and high definition images.

My final piece

So...This is the final illustration I have done.I was happy with the effect when it came out,it does look like cat's cradle to me.The concept of this illustration is "you can change Media City UK by your hands".

final background design

This is the final background of my illustration.I adjusted the brightness and contrast of one of the hands photographs I took.For the next step I will combine it with some "knitting wools"-----the illustration I did for Media City. 

Photos of hands

My flatmate took some pictures of my hands in the bathroom.I was in white shirts and in front of a white wall in order to create a white background for editing easily later.I tried to put my hands in a position which looks like playing cat's cradle.I will up load these images to photoshop and make some changes to create a background of my illustration.

final ideas

This is the final idea of my illustration design.In the middle is an illustration I did for Media City.I chose five structures  in Media City which people can easily reorganize,which are  Lowry Center,NV Buildings,Detroit Bridge,Millennium Tower and Imperial War Museum.

 

 

I was happy with this illustration I did as it simply showing Media City and the combination looks balanced.For the next I will try to present this image with some photographs of hands to make a cat's cradle style design.

I got a strong inspiration from these images and I think that cat's cradle is a perfect way to combine Media City with hands.I dicided to create my final based on this idea..

first idea and rough drafts

Based on the photographs of Media City and those inspirations I have got,I created three illustrations.My idea is to combine Media City with photographs of hands to express the team spirit and the contribution of their community.I wasn't quite happy with these three designs although I spent time on drawing them.I think these illustrations not really showing the effects I want.In my opinion,there are some important elements of Media City which are new,modern, agile and integrated.However,apart from the hands I do like my combinative sketch of Media City.I think I will keep working on it and look for more inspirations.
